STUDENTS SHARE STEM RESEARCH AT AMCHAM GALA DINNER

PLC Sydney students had the opportunity to share their science research and experiences in technology education with business leaders, entrepreneurs and international delegates at the Australia-America Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Annual Gala Dinner.

Eleanor (Year 6) and outgoing STEM Captain Jasmine (Year 12) led the presentation, speaking about the College’s approach to science research and technology education. A short video highlighted this work, showcasing projects by Jasmine, Lily (Year 12) and Angeline (Year 10).

Jacqueline and Layla (Year 4), Amy and Hayley (Year 9), and Helena, Olivia and Faye (Year 10) demonstrated emerging technologies and their research in the foyer showcase display.

The presentations were warmly received, with AmCham CEO April Palmerlee reflecting on the students’ contribution in her report following the event:

“One of my favourite moments of the evening, however, didn’t come from the sponsors or the finalists. It came from the young women from PLC Sydney who took to the stage to talk about their science projects. Their presence reminded me that Australia's innovation pipeline begins long before someone raises their first round of capital or establishes a company.”

The evening also offered students the chance to connect with people working across science, technology and business, and to hear different perspectives on innovation.

PLC Sydney’s incoming 2027 STEM Captain Fiona, used the occasion to begin building connections for the College’s student-led Science Forum in 2027. Around 60 students are involved in planning the forum, which brings students together to explore new ideas and engage with experts.

Opportunities such as this allow students to take their ideas beyond the classroom, share their research with new audiences and consider how their work might contribute to future developments in science and technology.

The event was made possible by PLC Sydney staff, who worked with students to prepare their presentations and support them throughout the evening.
