A NEW ERA FOR JUNIOR SCHOOL SPORT BEGINS IN 2027

From January 2027, our Junior School will proudly transition from IPSHA sport to the new Independent Girls' Schools Association (IGSA) Junior Sport Program, marking an exciting new chapter in girls' sport.

As an IGSA member school, we are proud to have our Principal and Director of Sport actively involved with the Association, contributing to the vision of a sporting program designed specifically for girls. Their involvement reflects our shared commitment to creating opportunities that place girls at the centre of sport and recognise the unique role it plays in developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership.

The move to the IGSA Junior Sport Program reflects a significant shift towards a model that champions girls' participation, development and well-being. Purpose-built for students in Years 3-6, the program has been designed around the needs of girls, providing an environment where every student is encouraged to participate, develop new skills and build a lifelong love of sport.

Bringing together 19 leading IGSA schools across NSW, the program offers a comprehensive sporting framework that includes weekly Saturday competitions, sport-specific carnivals and representative pathways, creating more opportunities than ever for girls to learn, compete and thrive.

Dr Burgis, Principal said:

"After many years of valued participation in IPSHA sport, our Junior School will transition to the IGSA Junior Sport Program from 2027. This move reflects our commitment to a sporting model designed exclusively for girls, one that champions participation, development, leadership and belonging in an all-girls environment."

The Junior IGSA seasonal sporting calendar will include:

  • Term 1: Water Polo and Football
  • Term 2: Netball and Minkey/Hockey
  • Term 3: Touch Football and Badminton (introduced to Junior Schools for the first time as a Saturday sport)
  • Term 4: Basketball and Tennis

Beyond weekly competition, the program introduces clear representative pathways, enabling talented young athletes to participate in IGSA carnivals (swimming, diving, cross country, athletics, gymnastics), trial for IGSA teams, and progress to CIS and PSSA representative competitions.

The launch of the IGSA Junior Sport Program represents a significant milestone for girls' sport. We are delighted to be part of this exciting initiative and look forward to seeing our Junior School students embrace the opportunities it offers while continuing to champion girls through sport.
