The annual Artist-in-Residence program connects Visual Arts at PLC Sydney with industry practitioners. Over the past 5 years, PLC Sydney has worked with some truly wonderful visual artists, such:

2018 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE NICOLE KELLY
PLC Sydney's 2018 Artist-in-Residence was Nicole Kelly. Nicole was awarded the prestigious Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2009 and has been a finalist in major art awards including the Wynne Prize, Redlands Art Award and the Portia Geach Memorial Award. In 2015 Nicole undertook the the Bundanon Trust Artist Residency and in 2017 the NG Art Creative Residency France.
2017 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MIRRA WHALE
PLC Sydney's 2017 Artist-in-Residence was Mirra Whale. Mirra joined Year 11 Visual Arts students during a 3 day art camp at The Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre at Riversdale on the Shoalhaven River near Nowra. An Honours graduate of Fine Arts at the National Art School, Sydney, she has been selected several times as a Finalist the Archibald and Portia Geach prizes for portraiture. She has also been awarded several residencies at Hill End at Haefliger’s Cottage.
2016 Artist in Residence Louisa Chircop
Born in Sydney, Louisa Chircop first began her studies at St George College of TAFE where she obtained an Associate Diploma in Fine Arts with Distinction and was awarded with the Highest Achievement Award and State Commission Medal for Fine Arts for the Highest Pass in NSW. In the same year she won the Basil and Muriel Hooper Scholarship with the Art Gallery of NSW. Louisa then went on to study at COFA UNSW where she obtained a BFA Honours Class 1 and was nominated by the Dean as the Highest Achiever in the BFA Degree. After being awarded with an Australian Post Graduate Award Scholarship, Louisa then pursued her MFA Degree by Research in Painting at the College of Fine Arts UNSW, completing it with High Distinction.
Most recently Louisa has been invited to participate in this year's Kedumba Drawing Award in which her work "Life Studies" was judged and acquired as part of the Kedumba collection. She also has won the Fisher's Ghost James Gleeson Award 2013 and was a finalist in the 2012 Dobell Prize for Drawing at the Art Gallery of NSW. She has been a finalist on several occasions and a winner in the contemporary section of the Fisher’s Ghost Prize at Campbelltown Regional Gallery. She has been a finalist in both the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and Art On The Rocks and a winner of the Lebovic Print Acquisitive Prize via the College Of Fine Arts (University of NSW). She is a finalist and recent winner of the Friends of Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award 2015.
Louisa has been represented at Art Month Sydney. She has twice received Critics’ Choice by SMH Art critic Andrew Frost. She has also been written about in "The Art Life" and featured in Issue #31 of "Artist Profile" magazine 2015.
She is also a lecturer in Painting and Drawing at the Australian Catholic University.
The annual Riversdale Dreaming exhibition at Adelaide Perry Gallery will showcase the works produced by Louisa Chircop and Year 11 Visual Arts during this period and opens at 7 pm Thursday 26 May, continuing weekdays 8.30 am – 4.00 pm until 12 June.
2015 Artist in Residence Evan Salmon
Courtesy of Sydney’s iconic Watters Gallery, Evan Salmon spent 3 days working with Year 11 Visual Arts at Arthur Boyd’s Bundanon property, on the Shoalhaven River near Nowra in April. During May he joins the classes in the Croydon studios as 2015 Artist in Residence.
The annual Riversdale Dreaming exhibition at Adelaide Perry Gallery will showcase the works produced by Mr Salmon and Year 11 Visual Arts during this period and opens at 7 pm Tuesday 26 May, continuing weekdays 8.30 am – 4.00 pm until 12 June.
2014 Artist in Residence Becky Gibson
Last year, we were delighted to host Becky Gibson as the 2014 Artist-in-Residence. Becky is a Sydney based painter and recipient of the prestigious Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship.
Year 11 Visual Arts students worked with Ms Gibson over three days at the beginning of April, staying at Bundanon's Yvonne and Arthur Boyd Education Centre at ‘Riversdale’ near Nowra. The artist then joined students in The Croydon studios in May to put together a body of paintings for the Riversdale Dreaming Exhibition at Adelaide Perry Gallery in June.
2013 Artist in Residence Peter Gardiner
Peter travelled to Bundanon with Year 11 Visual Arts in April and exhibited his works alongside PLC Visual Arts students in May, following a month's residency in The Croydon Studios. Peter is represented in Sydney by Damien Minton Gallery, Redfern.
2012 Artist in Residence: Rachel Fairfax
Courtesy of NG Gallery Chippendale, Rachel worked in drawing and painting 'en plain air' with Year 11 Visual Arts students on a four-day art camp at the Yvonne and Arthur Boyd Education Centre at Bundanon and was in residence in The Croydon until the end of May. Her residency at the College culminated in an exhibition in the Adelaide Perry Gallery.
