SEED INSPIRES ACTION ON SUSTAINABILITY DAY

This week, PLC Sydney’s environment and sustainability group, SEED, hosted its annual Sustainability Day, bringing students and staff together to learn more about sustainable practices and explore ways to reduce their environmental footprint.

Held at lunchtime near the Stables, Marden and the iconic Camphor Laurel tree, the event featured a vibrant collection of student-led stalls and activities designed to educate, inspire and encourage action.

Visitors had the opportunity to calculate their ecological footprint, make a pledge for the environment on the 'Sustainabilitree', and learn more about PLC Sydney’s turtle conservation program through the One Million Turtles initiative, including meeting some of the turtles themselves.

The event also showcased the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our students, with stalls offering zero-waste home-baked goods, student-made crochet gardens, Emma Goddard’s handcrafted crochet flowers and Lily Sabharwal’s upcycled jewellery. All proceeds from the day will be donated to wildlife rescue organisation WIRES.

The sustainability focus continued into the afternoon with the annual Interschool Sustainability Forum in College Hall. Students from PLC Sydney joined peers from Domremy College, Santa Sabina College, St Patrick’s College Strathfield, St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas, St Catherine’s School and Riverside Girls High School for an engaging program of sustainability-themed activities.

Following an interactive trivia session and round-table discussions, students participated in a Q&A with special guest speaker Sophia Skarparis, founder of PlasticFreeSophia and a passionate youth advocate working to combat plastic pollution and drive environmental change.

Sustainability Day continues to be a highlight of the school year, empowering students to think critically about environmental challenges and take meaningful action within their communities.

Congratulations to SEED on another successful and impactful Sustainability Day. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
