PLC SYDNEY WELCOMES CHINESE VICE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION

PLC Sydney was honoured to welcome the Vice Minister for Education of the People's Republic of China, Mr Wang Jiayi, and a distinguished delegation of senior education leaders to the College on Thursday 11 June.

The delegation included China's Director General of National Textbooks, Director General of Physical, Health and Arts Education,  and several other senior officials responsible for overseeing one of the world's largest education systems, serving more than 250 million students.

PLC Sydney was honoured to host Vice Minister Mr Wang Jiayi during his visit to Australia, which included meetings with government, university and education leaders.

The visit provided an opportunity for a rich exchange of ideas about education, student well-being and academic excellence. Vice Minister Mr Wang Jiayi was particularly interested in learning how PLC Sydney supports students in achieving strong academic outcomes while maintaining a healthy balance and a positive approach to well-being. Discussions also explored the College's educational philosophy, approach to pastoral care and anti-bullying initiatives.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas about education, student well-being and the future of learning, while gaining insights into current educational practices in China.

During the visit, the delegation toured several key learning spaces across the College, including Hamilton (Years 3-6), the Adelaide Perry Gallery, the Invertebrate House and the Turtle Program. The visitors expressed particular interest in PLC Sydney's commitment to providing diverse and engaging learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom.

A significant outcome of the visit was the presentation of a formal Delegation Invitation from the Chinese Government, creating opportunities for future professional learning and educational exchange between PLC Sydney and schools in China. The delegation also gifted a range of educational resources to support the teaching and learning of the Chinese language and culture at the College.

Dr Burgis thanked Ms Faraday Pang and the College's Languages staff, particularly the Chinese language teachers, for their strong engagement with the Chinese consular staff and their assistance in supporting the visit.

The visit marks an important milestone in strengthening international educational partnerships and reinforces PLC Sydney's commitment to engaging with leading educators and institutions from around the world to enrich learning opportunities for students and staff alike.
