PLC Sydney is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of two students, Ellie and Isobel, who have been awarded the Gold level of the The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the highest honour within this globally recognised program.
The Gold Award represents a significant milestone in a young person’s development. To achieve it, participants commit to at least 12 months of sustained effort across five key areas: Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills, an Adventurous Journey, and a Residential Project. Each element is designed to build resilience, independence, leadership and a strong sense of purpose.

While many students begin their journey with the Award, progressing to Gold requires exceptional perseverance and self-motivation. Participants challenge themselves well beyond their comfort zones, undertaking demanding multi-day expeditions and contributing meaningfully to their communities, all while balancing the academic expectations of senior school.
Ellie and Isobel’s achievements were formally recognised at a special ceremony at Government House, hosted by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC. This moment marks not only the culmination of their hard work, but also their growth into capable, community-minded young leaders.

At PLC Sydney, participation in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a valued part of the student experience. The program empowers students to discover their strengths, develop lifelong skills, and make a meaningful contribution beyond the classroom.
We congratulate Ellie and Isobel on this remarkable accomplishment and look forward to seeing more students embrace the opportunities offered through the Award.
