PLC Sydney offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to support outstanding students and create opportunities for those who might not otherwise be able to join our community. These cover part or full tuition or boarding fees and are awarded on academic merit, musical ability, or other talents. Some are means-tested.

Criteria for Selection
  • Australian Permanent Residents only (documentation required)
  • Instrumental Requirements (minimum AMEB grade or equivalent):
    • Strings: Violin Grade VII, Viola or Cello Grade VI, Double Bass Grade III
    • Brass/Woodwind: Bassoon, Oboe, French Horn, Euphonium, or Tuba Grade III
    • Other Brass/Woodwind: Trumpet or Trombone Grade IV, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute Grade V, Orchestral Percussion Grade IV
    • Piano: Grade VIII. Applicants must also perform a second orchestral instrument (one piece on piano, one piece on second instrument). Voice, Organ, or Harp may be used as the second instrument.
  • Vocal and Musical Theatre Requirements:
    • Voice: Open to all genres, including classical, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre. Applicants are assessed on musicality, technical skill, and potential for growth.
    • Musical Theatre: Open to students with experience in singing, dancing, movement, and acting. Applicants are assessed on musicality, technical skill, and potential for growth.
Audition Requirements (Shortlisted Candidates Only)

Instrumentalists:

  • Perform two contrasting pieces on the chosen instrument
  • If auditioning on a second instrument, play one piece on both instruments
  • Sight reading
  • Sing a small folk song or short song unaccompanied

Vocalists:

  • Perform two contrasting songs highlighting vocal range and versatility
  • Sight sing
  • Sing a small folk song or short song unaccompanied

Musical Theatre Performers:

  • Perform two contrasting songs highlighting ability to sing, dance, move, and act (from published musicals)
  • Deliver a 1–2 minute monologue from a published musical or play
  • Willing to contribute to the College community and the broad goals of PLC Sydney

INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to access a PLC Sydney education.

PLC Sydney acknowledges that our school community is situated on Wangal land and in this, we are committed to continuing to participate in the rich history of these lands. For over 50 years, part of embracing this commitment has involved offering educational opportunities for Indigenous students. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to apply for one of two scholarships offered to students seeking to attend PLC Sydney.

  • For: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students (new applicants only) entering Years 7–12, boarding
  • Covers: Full tuition and boarding fees for up to six years (Years 7–12), plus resources up to $3,500 per year (textbooks, uniforms, excursions, technology fees, subject fees)
  • Excludes: PLC Sydney Application Fee ($440) and ESU Membership ($200)
