We recognise and celebrate the importance of cultural diversity within our community

International Students

...an exceptional International Program

With an exceptional International Program - PLC Sydney welcomes students from around the world.

With international students from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Great Britain, USA, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea—to name a few—we are truly a multicultural community.

Our international students bring cultural enrichment, language diversity and global perspectives to our school community. Located in Sydney’s vibrant inner west region, the girls have easy access to the many activities and events on offer in Sydney. We aim to ensure our international students are immersed in the culture of the school and have the opportunity to truly enjoy their Australian experience. International students make a significant contribution to the life of the school and we welcome and celebrate their diversity.

We invite you to take a virtual tour of the College, or book a private tour at a time that suits you when you are next in Sydney.

With international students from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Great Britain, USA, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea—to name a few—we are truly a multicultural community.

We have a dedicated staff member who looks after our International Students, providing:

  • Advice and managing their visa applications, homestay requirements and guardian details.
  • Runs a special 2 day orientation program on arrival at the College, to help students settle in and get to know the school at the beginning of the school year
  • Specialised academic support, both within and outside of the classroom
  • Overall well-being support

Information about studying in Australia in general can be found on the Government website www.studyinaustralia.gov.au.

PLC Sydney is a CRICOS registered provider (#02280D) for Full Fee Paying Overseas Students (FFPOS). A Full Fee Paying Overseas student requires a student visa to attend school in Australia.

This information is relevant to students seeking to study at PLC Sydney as an International Student on a Subclass 500 visa. International Students who are Australian or New Zealand citizens or who will be residing in Australia as a Temporary Resident (TR) or Permanent Resident (PR) should apply to the College as a local student. International students will need to provide copies of their residential status upon application.

Please note: You will also need to take out Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) prior to a Student Visa being granted.

All costs associated with AEAS testing are to be paid by the family/student. AEAS is the only recognised testing procedure used by PLC Sydney for students currently studying overseas. An English course may be required if the required level of proficiency is not met.

In order for the application of an international student to be accepted at PLC Sydney, the following levels of English proficiency MUST be reached:

  • Years 7 - 10: A minimum of 70% for English and a Stanine 7 for Mathematical Ability and Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • Years 11 and 12: minimum of 78% for English and a Stanine 7 for Mathematical Ability and Non-Verbal Reasoning

NB Once a student commences at the College, support is offered where appropriate.

It is PLC Sydney’s preference for Overseas Students to live with a parent or close family relative (as defined by Department of Immigration and Border Protection), or for students in Years 7-12 to live within the College at the PLC Sydney Boarding House.

With the prior approval of the Principal, permission may be granted for an Overseas Student to live with an approved guardian.

All overseas students must have a guardian to represent them. The guardian must be:

  • Over 25 years old
  • Able to communicate effectively with the College in English
  • Appointed by the parents (or agent)
  • Resident in Sydney
  • Willing and able to care for the student at home in a period of ill health and holidays
  • First point of contact in emergencies and when problems arise.

The Australian Government classifies an overseas student as someone who is neither an Australian citizen or Australian Residency Visa holder and who attends an Australian school, as a ‘Full Fee Paying Overseas Student’. The school does not receive government support for such students.
