ATHLETICS, ACHIEVEMENT AND SCHOOL SPIRIT

With blue skies overhead and boundless energy on the track, PLC Sydney’s Senior Athletics Carnival delivered a brilliant day of competition and camaraderie at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

Year 12 students soaking up every moment at their final PLC Sydney Athletics Carnival.

From sprints and hurdles to high jump and discus, our students took to the field with determination and passion. The Carnival featured a wide range of events — including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and hurdles, as well as Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Shot Put and Discus. For a touch of tradition and fun, novelty events such as the egg-and-spoon race also made an appearance, much to the delight of students and staff alike.

Lulu (Year 8), Jessie (Year 9), Amelia and Asha (Year 10) smash the 4 x 100m House Relay record with a time of 52.69.

As always, the talent on display was outstanding. An impressive four school records were broken, including two by Aspen (Year 12) in the Senior Girls 1500m (4:37.95) and 800m (2:19.95). Asha (Year 10) broke the Senior Girls 400m record (1:01.19), then teamed up with Lulu (Year 8), Jessie (Year 9) and Amelia (Year 10) to break the 4 x 100m House Relay record (52.69).

Boarders take the win in the 6 x 100m Relay— a joyful highlight of the day.

In true PLC Sydney spirit, the friendly rivalry between boarders, day girls and staff came alive in the annual 6 x 100m Relay. The Boarders claimed the win and celebrated with cheers, singing and dancing – a joyful expression of school pride.

Amelia (Year 10) claims the title of PLC Sydney’s fastest girl for the fourth year running.

One of the day's most anticipated events, the Billy Mac Dash, saw the 10 fastest girls of the day sprint 100m to the sound of live bagpipes. For the 4th consecutive year, Amelia took out the title, running an impressive 12.78 seconds, ahead of Keira and Madeleine (Year 10).

Dressed in colour and united in spirit, the Class of 2025 wrapped up the day with their signature #unity.

The day concluded with our Year 12 students – the Class of 2025 – gathering in full costume and colour on the hill, continuing a cherished PLC Sydney tradition that celebrates their leadership and final year.

At PLC Sydney, our House system is so much more than sport — it sits at the heart of our Well-being Program, supporting each student from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 12. House events like the Athletics Carnival are designed not just to encourage physical activity, but also to nurture teamwork, leadership, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Our students thrive in an environment where achievement is celebrated, friendships are strengthened across year levels, and joy is an essential part of the learning experience.
