CELEBRATING NAIDOC WEEK AT PLC SYDNEY

NAIDOC Week, held nationally from 6–13 July during the recent school holidays, is a time to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, honoured the legacy of past leaders while looking ahead to a future shaped by the strength of young voices and the wisdom of Elders.

At PLC Sydney, we marked NAIDOC Week from 4–8 August, bringing together students, staff and special guests in a meaningful celebration of First Nations culture.

Ann Flood (Class of 1964), PLC Sydney’s first Indigenous boarder.

In the Junior School, Year 5 students led a thoughtful assembly presentation, deepening our collective respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

In the Senior School, we were privileged to hear from Ann Flood (Class of 1964), PLC Sydney’s first Indigenous boarder, whose powerful story inspired the next generation of students. We were also honoured to welcome Pastor Ray Minniecon and Aunty Kayleen Manton, who offered further insight into the strength and spirit of First Nations communities.

Aboriginal Dance Group Jatama performed at PLC Sydney, sharing the story of the didgeridoo through dance and storytelling.

Our celebrations featured a vibrant cultural performance by Jatama, who travelled from Kura to share the story of the didgeridoo through dance and storytelling.

Djurumin students joined a special yarning circle with Ann Flood and Aunty Kayleen, listening to stories from Ann’s time as a boarder at PLC Sydney.

Students also enjoyed a variety of activities, including a BBQ damper lunch, weaving workshops and face painting.

Thank you to all for contributing to a rich and respectful celebration of culture, connection and community.

We look forward to the opening of the Ann Flood Room next month. Details to follow .
