Your child's natural curiosity and love of learning will be nurtured and encouraged at PLC Sydney

...igniting a love of learning

Our girls love to learn. We aim to instill an enthusiasm for knowledge that will support and enhance their learning as they progress through school.

A strong foundation is essential in ensuring sound academic and social development for future learning. PLC Sydney's Junior School provides a broad values-based education, with its focus on academic excellence underpinned by a strong pastoral care and rich co-curricular program which endeavours to develop in children an enthusiasm and curiosity for learning, whilst building confidence and self-esteem. Our teachers deliver stimulating lessons that are challenging and fun, using technology when appropriate, to support learning.

Junior School students study a broad and exciting curriculum, largely determined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), including English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History and Geography (HSIE), Creative Arts, Music, PDHPE, Languages including French or Chinese, and Christian Studies, supported by a strong cultural, sporting and co-curricular offering. We promote excellence and are committed to reaching every student.

At PLC Sydney, we believe our girls are happiest and thrive when families and teachers work together in strong partnership.

We welcome and encourage open and positive communication and involvement with parents as we seek to foster confident, caring and independent lifelong learners.

Learning is further enriched with specialist teachers delivering lessons in:
  • Art
  • Christian Studies
  • Drama
  • French or Chinese Language
  • Library
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Science and Technology

Private tuition is also available in Speech, Instrumental Music and select sports.

Core values underpin all that we do. They provide a framework for our lives and shape our thoughts, feelings and actions. In a community of Grace we are brought together in Reverence (Heart), Wisdom (Head) and Service (Hands).

Students have different abilities and learning styles and we have a comprehensive extension and support program in place to support the diverse needs of our students.

Learning Support

Specialist teachers in literacy and numeracy provide regular support in the classroom and in small groups, according to student needs. These teachers work closely with classroom teachers to develop programs and assess and monitor student progress.

A specialist EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) teacher is also available to work with students whose first language is not English. The EALD program is delivered in small groups or to individuals.

Extension and Enrichment

Our comprehensive gifted and talented program caters for students in the following ways:

  • Classroom
Differentiated teaching strategies are integrated into programs to cater for the learning needs of all students and support their growth towards academic excellence.
  • Special Extension Courses (SPEC)
Short term courses for small groups of students who demonstrate readiness for challenge, extension and enrichment activities.
  • Additional Opportunities
To support academic growth beyond the classroom we offer a range of academic competitions such as Tournament of Minds, Da Vinci Decathlon, Mathematics Enrichment Challenges and Competitions, Debating, Chess and other specialist clubs and activities.

Known for academic excellence, PLC Sydney has a dedicated Futures Centre which caters for gifted and talented children across Sydney. It is one of the longest running programs of its kind in Australia.

Our teachers are inspiring, kind and caring. They make learning fun.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program is for girls who are quite independent and ready for school.  When they have completed the Pre-K program, they are ready to go into Kindergarten, comfortable with pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, and the demands of a school routine—and they do it all through play.

The benefits of our exceptional program include:

  • A Reggio Emilia approach
  • Excellent foundations in literacy and numeracy
  • A rich music program that progresses through into the primary years
  • Specialist lessons in PE, Art and Library
  • An early science program including access to our invertebrates and turtles
  • An in-class swimming program
  • Co-curricular swimming and gymnastics programs
  • Students gain familiarity with the main campus prior to starting in Kindergarten
  • Connections with older sisters and friends
  • Contact with the Chaplaincy team
  • Automatic entry to PLC Sydney
  • Access to before and after school care, onsite.

In a community of Grace we are brought together in Reverence (Heart), Wisdom (Head) and Service (Hands).
