Inquisitive Minds in Year 7


At the end of Term 1, Year 7 participated in an incursion where problem solving was the focus of the day. The organisation Inquisitive Minds brought the promise of chocolate for participation in maths problem-solving. Many students find mathematical problem solving quite confronting and require encouragement to persist in finding solutions. 

Inquisitive Minds created a safe and exciting environment where the girls were able to discuss the problem and experiment in finding solutions. The organisation allowed periodic teaching of methods of problem-solving and the chance to win chocolate for the spontaneous problem that appeared on the screen. The feedback from the girls was overwhelmingly positive and asked for longer sessions in the future. Year 7 girls had fun with their peers learning various methods of mathematical problem solving and it was a very successful day.
