ATHLETICS

Athletics NSW Junior and Youth State Championships

Congratulations to Bronte Prentice (Year 7), Sarah Clifton-Bligh (Year 8), Haley Mills (Year 8), Emily Moloney (Year 8) and Abigail Stevanovic (Year 10), who competed for their respective clubs at the 2017 Athletics NSW Junior and Youth Championships, held at Sydney Olympic Park from 3–5  February.

Abigail won both her events, claiming two state titles, the U16 90m Hurdles and the U16 200m Hurdles. Emily won gold in the U15 2000m Steeplechase. Sarah won gold in all seven of her events, the U16 Para Athlete Wheelchair – 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, Javelin, Shot Put and Discus.

Sarah, Emily and Abigail will now compete at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships from 26 March to 2 April 2017.

 

Athletics NSW Open, U23 & Para Championships 

Congratulations to Sarah Clifton-Bligh (Year 8) who was named Para State Champion at the Athletics NSW Open, U23 & Para Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park from 24–26 April.

 

On Saturday, up against terrible weather conditions and one of her coaches, Angie Ballard (paralympic medallist and world record holder), Sarah won first place in the javelin, second in the 800m (taking 17 seconds of her previous personal best time) and third in the 200m.


On Sunday, Sarah went on to win the 100m and 400m and placed second in the discus. 

Sarah has qualified for the Australian Open, U23 & Para Championships to be held  26 March to 2 April 2017.

 

NSW CIS AWARDS

Congratulations to Emily Webb (Year 6) and Abigail Stevanovic (Year 10) who attended the 2016 NSW Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) Presentation Evening held on 17 February 2017 at the Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Homebush. Emily won a CIS Red Award for her performance in the School Sports Australia Diving Carnival and Abigail won the Secondary Team of the Year Award for being a member of the Girls Football Team.

The NSWCIS Awards have been designed to recognise the outstanding sporting achievements, exceptional commitment and dedication of students and staff involved in CIS Sports. Congratulations girls!

FIGURE SKATING

Congratulations to Giselle Gurr (Year 9), who recently returned from Europe after representing Australia with the Majestic Ice synchronized skating team in Austria and France.

The team competed in two competitions open to skaters of all ages.

The ‘Mozart Cup’ competition, held in Salzburg, is one of the largest international synchronized skating competitions in Europe. Giselle’s team finished an impressive 4th out of an international field of 23.

In the second competition, ‘Trophée de la Reine Mathilde’ in Caen, Giselle’s team won gold, beating 7 French teams. Well done, Giselle!

Congratulations to Anna Dowling (Year 9) who has been selected for the Australian Schools Mixed Polo Team. Anna will tour New Zealand, Christchurch from  20–27 March to play in the Supa International Schools Competition. 

The team will play three school games culminating in the SUPA Tournament NZ v AUS Schools Team International on Sunday 26 March 2017.

This is an incredible achievement for Anna. She is one of just four students (two boys and two girls) making up the Australian team along with her older brother Hamish. We wish them all the best for the tournament.

PLC Sydney/ The Kings School Regatta 

The much anticipated PLC Sydney and The Kings School Regatta was held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on Saturday 18 February 2017. This is one of the biggest events on the PLC Sydney Rowing calendar where the whole rowing community gets involved. Students had a great day with lots of exciting and close races and many of our PLC Sydney crews on the podium. Dr Burgis and Mrs Chiba were very proud to be there to present the girls with their medals. Congratulations to all on a fabulous day.

IGSSA Regatta 

Congratulations to our PLC Sydney rowers who returned to Sydney International Regatta Centre to compete at the 2017 IGSSA Rowing Regatta, on Sunday 19 February, after our massive day prior at the PLC Sydney/Kings School Regatta. It was fabulous to see so many of our PLC Sydney crews on the podium. First, second and third places were presented with medals on the day. Overall, PLC Sydney placed 6th which is a great improvement on last year where we placed 8th.

Congratulations to our PLC Sydney rowers who battled some challenging conditions on Saturday 25 February at the MLC School Regatta. It was cooler weather than we have been experiencing, at Hen and Chicken Bay, Concord, with southerly winds and threatening rain all morning.

TRIATHLON

Congratulations to our PLC Sydney athletes who competed at the 2017 NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships from 22–23 February.   

Moloney sisters Emily (Year 8) and Hannah (Year 10) have been selected for the NSW All Schools Triathlon team. Emily finished 4th in the Junior event after running through the top end of the field following the swim and bike components. Hannah, 2016 Junior Champion, finished 3rd in the Intermediate category and had the quickest run leg within her division. They will compete at the 2017 School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships which will be held at the International Regatta Centre, Penrith from 18–21 April. 

Chelsey Johnson (Year 9) also performed strongly in the Intermediate category finishing 17th.

Following the individual events, nine PLC Sydney teams went up against almost 3000 competitors. Congratulations to our PLC Sydney Junior team, Heidi Watkins (Year 9) swim, Margaret O’Reilly (Year 9) cycle and Emily Moloney (Year 7) run, who finished 2nd. Also putting on a strong performance was the Intermediate team of Samarah Melia (Year 10) swim, Chelsey Johnson (Year 9) cycle and Hannah Moloney (Year 10) run, who finished 3rd.
