International Science and Engineering Fair

From state awards (STANSW Young Scientist Awards) to a national competition (BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards) and now representing Australia at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair. There’s no stopping these STEM leaders of the future.

Congratulations to Rebekah Kang (Year 11) and Eleanor Lawton-Wade (Year 11) who have been selected to represent Australia at the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-university science competition. Intel ISEF runs from 14-19 May 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Rebekah and Eleanor were selected to represent Australia as a result of their excellent research submitted to the 2016 STANSW Young Scientist Awards. These awards are a major project of the Science Teachers' Association of New South Wales (STANSW).

Rebekah and Eleanor also competed in the 2017 BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards. These awards showcase students who produced work that has solved real-world problems with innovative inventions and ambitious scientific investigations. Eleanor was a semi-finalist and Rebekah was one of 26 National Finalists. Rebekah presented and defended her research before a panel of judges in Melbourne and was awarded 3rd place in the Investigations category.

Eliza Martin (Year 9) will also be travelling with the team, representing Australia at the Broadcom Masters International which brings together middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in scientific research.

This is an incredible achievement and we wish them all the best.
