Allowah Children’s Hospital
Allowah Children’s Hospital has been the focus for Service Learning for Year 8 over the past two years. Each homeroom group has had the opportunity to visit and to provide an activity for the children. Songs, Bible stories and craft activities have enabled our students to engage meaningfully with the children at Allowah.
Alongside these relational opportunities, Year 8 participated in a Mural Competition this year to brighten up the playground space at Allowah. A wall of the garden was sectioned into five panels, with one to be painted each year. The first panel, an image created by Anais Lowe, was painted last year. The winners of this year’s competition, Corlette Graham and Heidi Osborne, created an image by combining Heidi’s swimming carp in Corlette’s sea of ferns and baubles. Emily Li’s pencil drawing was also a winning entry and was framed and hung in the hospital last week.
A very big thank you to Jo Knight for her wonderful assistance in this project and to the Chaplain of Allowah, Rochelle Weston, for her enthusiasm and support and to Mrs Sarah Drysdale (mother of Annalise Drysdale) for donating plants and giving up her time to fix up the garden. All of Year 8 recognise the privilege of spending time with the children at Allowah and we are immensely grateful for the opportunity.
