On Saturday 4 February 2017, the Senior School Badminton players competed in a PLC Sydney tradition, the Harden Classic. About 60 students took part, some in their first games and others serious contenders for the trophies. 

The senior final was between Ella Udechuku (Year 10) and Zhi Qian (Tracey) Chiu (Year 10) with Ella becoming the senior champion. The junior final was between Xiaotong (Sharon) Li (Year 9) and Jessica Cheng (Year 9) with Sharon taking the win. The day ended with the senior and junior champions taking the court against each other. In a close game, Sharon took victory being named the overall champion of the Harden Classic for 2017. 

Congratulations all girls involved and a big welcome to Sharon, who only started at PLC Sydney this year.

Diving

Congratulations to Lauren Flint (Year 8) who is attending a diving camp in Tokyo, from 6-17 February 2017, in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Lauren, along with our 2016 Olympians, will train at the 2020 Olympic venue for the next two weeks to accustom the Australian Squad to the pool and its environment.

This is an incredible honour for such a young lady and we are so proud of her. Best wishes Lauren and a heart-felt ‘hooray’ from all your PLC Sydney followers.

Hockey

Congratulations to Litiana Field (Year 12) who has been selected in the NSW U18 State Women’s Hockey Team. Litiana will contest the Australian Championships in Hobart in April 2017. All the very best with your preparation Litiana.

Rowing

On Saturday 4 January 2017, the PLC Sydney rowing team competed in their first regatta for the year. The hard work they put in at our January Rowing Camp paid off, with all crews performing at a much higher standard than they were last term. Our crews achieved a number of wins as well as some places. Congratulations to the following winning crews: 

Bronte Marshall (Year 12) - Para 1000m Single Scull; Ellie Taylor (Year 10) - Para 500m Single Scull; Madeline Panos, Georgie Whitford, Alexandra Vaughan, Sara Fahey and Cox: Lauren Thomas -  Year 8 Quad Scull; Anneka Graham and Esther Rutherford - Year 10 Double Scull; and our First Senior Crew: Lilli Glenn (Year 11)Laura Brady (Year 11)Isabella Dorigo (Year 11)Lexe Meyer (Year 12) and Cox: Stella Shannon (Year 11) - Senior Quad Scull

A special mention to our Para Crew who raced for the first time in a Coxed Four - with one oar each rather than their usual two. A great achievement for them.
