NYC Drama Tour

Over the September holidays, 21 Year 10 and 11 Drama students had the privilege of travelling to New York City for the experience of a life time. New York is, without question, the theatrical hub of the world. The Tour involved cultural, theoretical and practical experiences that enriched our students’ practice and understanding of Drama and Theatre. Students had the opportunity to work with exceptional practitioners from institutions including The Lee Strasberg School, UCB, Siti Centre, American Academy of Dramatic Arts and The Roundabout Theatre. Taking part in these workshops developed confidence and refined skills. Crucially, students will be able to apply their learning to studies in both Stage 5 and 6 of the NESA curriculum.

As well as classes, students had the opportunity to watch a variety of high quality theatrical performances in a wide range of styles. They led a Drama class at an underprivileged primary school in the Harlem area linked with the Convent Avenue Baptist Church. This Tour reminded us that Drama has the power to bring communities together and make genuine connections.

Keep an eye out for the next issue of Camphora for student reflections of the tour.
