2017 Debating Season
The Senior, 8A, 8B and 7A debating teams made it into the quarterfinals of the Archdale Tournament.
The official competitions for our 2017 debating season are now complete. We have farewelled Jade Lin (Year 12) our 2017 Debating Captain and handed over to Lauren McGrath-Wild (Year 11), our Debating Captain for 2018. In Term 4 we will have the House Debating competition and trials for 2018 teams.
The Senior, 8A, 8B and 7A debating teams made it into the quarterfinals of the Archdale Tournament. PLC Sydney finished 7th overall, out of 22 schools, before heading into the final series.
Congratulations to Archdale 8A and 8B who made it to the Grand Final. This required seven rounds, three finals and countless hours of training in the lead up. Additional congratulations must go the Senior Archdale team who made it to the semi final.
Below, the 8A team reflects on the season:
'This Archdale season was not only a great competition, but it was also a semester of our school lives that we will never forget. We are all so grateful for the opportunities and skills that debating has provided us with, such as courage, quick thinking and teamwork. Some weeks we are more nervous than others, yet each and every week we tried to debate to the best of our ability. This courage has given us the capability to try new things and speak up about social issues.'
Below, the 8B team reflects on the season:
'Not only did we learn about the art of debating, our eyes we were also opened to the world outside of our community where we learned about sport, pop culture and politics. This season was enjoyable as we had our fair share of victories and defeats which taught us the value of perseverance and allowed us to grow into better debaters.'
Archdale was a challenging competition that encouraged both vertical and lateral thinking amongst the PLC Sydney girls. We commend them on their success this season and wish them luck for the upcoming 2018 ISDA competition in Term 1 next year.
Lauren McGrath-Wild (Year 11).
