Choral Concert 2017

video-gallery-sidebar-icon Here's a snippet of the song 'All The Pretty Little Horses' performed by the PLC Sydney Voices.

Congratulations to students in Evandale, Hamilton and the Senior School for presenting an entertaining and joyous evening of choral singing. Being the first year ever that both Junior and Senior School choirs have been able to combine, it was a lovely event.

Beginning and ending with some engaging pieces, the evening started with an A Capella piece, Festive Alleluia sung by The Chamber Choir followed by our youngest singers – Year 2 singing three fun and interactive songs that got the audience warmed up! With selected difficult and high quality songs from Vocal Ensemble, Madrigal Group and our guest choir The Scots College,  the standard of singing was truly beautiful. Our younger students did not disappoint with both PLC Sydney Voices and Cantabile rendering some very fine descriptive performances. Our Vocalise girls also entertained us with Morcheeba and the Chamber Choir with two slow but very evocative songs, Starry Crayon and Do Not Stand. Our 70 voiced College Choir ended the evening with two polished performances of Photograph and Crazy Little Thing Called Love leaving the audience singing these songs in their heads.

The girls performed so beautifully thanks to all their hard work. Thank you to all the very supportive parents, the Music Support Group, Mrs Jennifer Trynes and her dad Ray and to staff who helped pull the event together.

Drama students shine in HSC Examinations

On Monday 21 August all 16 HSC Drama candidates presented their Individual Projects and Group Performances to NESA. This year saw some exceptional Individual Performances. Students developed monologues 6-8 minutes long in a variety of styles – from dark characters battling unimaginable trauma to hopeful young people forging out their place in the world. We also had three students attempt promotion and poster design. This project requires students to create a poster, flyer, full program and media feature article for a play that they imagine would be currently playing at a Sydney Theatre. These students are to be congratulated on their ability to use image and text to engage their audience. PLC Sydney also had one costume design student who presented 10 stunning renderings in a beautiful interpretation of Louis Nowra’s Summer of the Aliens. Group Performances are 8-12 minute pieces of completely original Drama created by the students. This year the works varied in style and concept from lost cupids looking for the real value of human kindness, footy fans re-evaluating the culture of the game, young women embracing the natural phenomenon of menstruation to a political piece about the distracting nature of social media. All students married content and form beautifully. Mrs Maria Halkidis is to be thanked for all the hard work and care she demonstrated in preparing our students so well.

If you would like to see a selection of these HSC Drama performances, please come along to Curtain Call on Monday 11 September in the AKT at 6.30 pm. To book your free reserved seating please click here.

PLC Sydney Play and Musical

And so it begins…rehearsals for the next PLC Sydney Play and Musical are in full swing!

A fast paced farcical romp through Yonkers, New York – Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker is proving an absolute joy to work with in rehearsal. Maria Halkidis is directing the next PLC Sydney Play and is already impressed with the wit and comic timing displayed by the cast in the first six weeks of rehearsal. The Matchmaker is the play on which famed musical Hello Dolly is based. The PLC Sydney Play involves students from Years 7-11 and will be run from 16-17 November in Audrey Keown Theatre (AKT). Expect professional performances and beautiful costumes and an interactive set!

Our next PLC Sydney Musical, Beauty and the Beast, was announced last Term to rapturous applause and great excitement. Over the past three weeks students have worked tirelessly to audition for this production. They worked closely with our new Choreographer, Ms Senior, on a very tricky dance audition. Students then prepared various sections of songs from the beautiful score. The cast list has been published and we are glad to be welcoming eight gentlemen from five different schools into our company. This will be one of the largest casts in PLC Sydney Musical history and we are excited to be celebrating the Performing Arts in this way for what will be 130 Years of our College.
