Dear PLC Sydney Community

issue1217-linda-chiba-2Tradition is an important cultural value of PLC Sydney. The Pet Show this Saturday 26 August reflects one such tradition. PLC Sydney’s association with the Guide Dogs began in 1962 some 55 years ago. It was started by class 5A1 and on the first real pet show, £50 was raised. The Pet Show is now the main service learning project for Year 9. Each homeroom group is responsible for running stalls on the day. There is also a Pet Show Committee made up of Year 9 students which oversees the day with the aim of raising enough money to train a guide dog. We hope that you can join us along with your favourite pet for a day of fun and enjoyment. The Pet Show runs from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.

Our Year 12 students are back in class again after completing their trial HSC exams. With only four weeks to go until their graduation, we are encouraging the students to use this time to reflect actively on feedback from their teachers, to work collegially with their peers in study and small groups and to unite as a cohort in order to maximise their potential success at the HSC exam. Under the loving guidance and leadership of their Head of Year Linda Eades, Year 12 2017 have exemplified all the qualities that we nurture at PLC Sydney: resilience, confidence, teamwork, compassion, excellence and humility. I am confident that Year 12 2017 will finish their final year of schooling proud of their achievements and looking hopefully to the future.

One of the strengths of PLC Sydney that makes it, I believe, quite unique is the wonderful spirit of community that is on display at our events and performances. We experienced one such event last Saturday night at the PLC Sydney Tattoo. To those wonderful parents and friends who came to support this event in such challenging weather conditions, thank you. Weren’t our students just amazing! Watching the students staying so focused, determined and upbeat in such blustery conditions made me very proud to be a part of this wonderful community. View photos from the event here.

Dr Burgis returns from Sabbatical leave on Monday 28 August. I have enjoyed my role as Acting Principal. I thank the PLC Sydney community for your support during this time.
