Sandakan Memorial Service
On Sunday 6 August, three Year 6 PLC Sydney students spoke at the 24th Annual Sandakan Service held at Burwood Park. Junior School Captain, Raehana Taoube, Billie Ronis and Olivia Sader presented readings of remembrance and offered prayers for future peace. Local, Federal and State members of Parliament were present and noted that the girls presented with dignity at the sombre event and honoured the servicemen most effectively with their readings. The annual Sandakan service reflected upon one of the darkest and most depraved Japanese war crimes committed against Australian prisoners held in captivity in North Borneo. Our students did a fantastic job and ensured that the fallen remained in the hearts and minds of our local community.
