A sad day for PLC Sydney

issue1117-tree-3issue1117-tree-4

Every six months our arborist provides us with a full analysis of the safety of our trees. He then organises appropriate action to keep them healthy and strong.

Of course no tree can live forever.

It is my sad duty to inform you that our beautiful fig tree in Evandale has reached the end of its life.

The latest arborist report indicated an increase in decay in its stem such that it enters the zone that will make it unsafe for the tree to be in the playground very soon. We really love our tree in Evandale and tragically it will have to come down. It is hollowing out on the inside and the risk of a branch falling or a section of the trunk failing is going to increase at a fast rate from now on.

Therefore we will be holding a special ‘thank you’ assembly for our tree before the end of term. The tree will come down in the holidays.

We will replace it with one slow growing large shade tree and a faster growing decorative shade tree.

I feel so sad, yet I must act to keep children and staff safe.

Thank you for your understanding.
