Congratulations to Lauren Flint who at the age of 14 competed in her first Open Nationals. Open Nationals is a competition where divers have the opportunity to be selected for international competitions including World Championships. Lauren competed against girls more than 10 years her senior in the finals, after qualifying through the preliminary and semis. Lauren finished a creditable 10th. We are so very proud of you Lauren!
Lauren Flint (Year 8) placed 10th at the Open National Diving Championships.
Congratulations to Angela Enqi Liu (Year 7) who was part of a National Team to play against New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman Cup 2017. The Australian Team managed to pip the Kiwis winning 6.5 to 5.5!
On the 5 and 6 May, 24 of Australia’s best junior golfers aged between 5 and 14, took on New Zealand in a tournament organised by U.S. Kids Golf Australia.
Held at Barnwell Park Golf Club, Five Dock, the tournament opened with a march with each team dressed in their country colours and marching behind their flag. The national anthems were sung with pride which the Kiwi team followed up with a Haka!
The golf on day one was a Pro Kids event with competitors playing in their age and gender divisions. The result was a 6 – 6 draw and a subsequent play off with the Aussies coming out on top.
Day two was the Trans-Tasman Cup. Scoring was a combination of stroke and match play with a point given to the team that wins each age category. The result hung in the balance but once again the Aussies proved too strong giving Australia a 6.5 to 5.5 win.
‘I really enjoy playing in the team events. Golf is great and I really love hitting the ball well, but being in the team is extra special.’ Angela.
GYMNASTICS - ACROBATICS
After a rocky start to the year with one of her trio team mates out injured, Jennifer Lim (Year 12), along with her trio, qualified and competed in the National Championships. The group was not expecting to place considering they had limited practice however, they surprised themselves and the rest of the NSW team by placing 1st in Balance, 1st in Dynamic and 1st in the All Around, giving them the title of National Level 8 Champions. Congratulations Jennifer!
