The Bard lives on at PLC Sydney

It is with great excitement that the Drama department entered the Sport for Jove Shakespeare Festival this year. This is a statewide competition involving schools, in both the private and public sector, from all over NSW.

The first round of the festival was at school level. We had students participate in Group Scene and Duologue sections. Year 9 students Eli Biernoff-Giles, Hemans Chan and Brianna Neowhouse were awarded Highly Commended for their dynamic exploration of the dysfunctional Capulet Family from Romeo and Juliet. Year 10 students Sophie Douglas, Karli Musarra and Julia Leggat won first place in the Group Scene section for a compelling mash-up of various sequences from Macbeth which explored ambition, jealousy and the supernatural using physical theatre techniques and soundscape. Year 11 students Sophia Morrison and Scarlett Wynne won first place in the Duologue section for their very sweet and excitable scene between Juliet and her Nurse.

Both first place winning teams have since competed at the Regional Final. I am very pleased to report that our Year 10 group won their event and will now progress to the State Final at the Seymour Centre on Saturday 18 June. Our Year 11 Duologue was also selected as the judges 'wild card' entry to a specialised actors workshop. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to their brave theatricality.

The PLC Sydney Drama department is thrilled that our students are not only achieving at such a high level but also supporting one another and making bold creative choices in their work.
