At the Senior School Assembly on Friday 6 May, PLC Sydney honoured two of our students who competed in the World Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Pittsburgh USA. Both Annie McCarthy and Nicole Sung were awarded 'PLC Sydney Australian Blazers' - awarded only to students who are selected to represent Australia in a World Championships or Olympics whilst at school.
PLC Sydney had two students in the Australian Schools Public Speaking Team in 2016. Nicole finished first in Interpretative Reading and 4th in Persuasive Speaking. Annie finished 6th in After Dinner Speaking and 6th in Interpretative Reading. They are now ranked 11th and 26th in the World, respectively, across four disciplines: Debating, Public Speaking (After Dinner or Persuasive), Impromptu Speaking and Interpretative Reading.
More important than their results is what they said. Below you can view their performances. Nicole read a narrative about domestic violence and Annie gave a humorous address on what it is to be Australian. Well done girls!
