Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition

Three PLC Sydney students attended the District Finals of the Rostrum Voice of Youth, held at MLC School on Monday 9 May. In the Junior Division, Lina Cho and Sophie Ma offered their views in the Prepared Speeches on ‘the reducing high recidivism rates in Australia and children in detention’. They were tested on the Short Notice speeches, with both girls presenting compelling and substantial arguments on ‘caffeine addiction’ and ‘the stolen generation’. Both girls demanded the audience's attention with their confidence, passion and logic. Lina won her event and will proceed to the State Finals on 18 June at Sydney Grammar. All are welcome to attend this exciting event.
Kelsey Lu (Year 11) also reached the District Finals of the Senior Division for this challenging competition, which involved representatives from schools such as Sydney Grammar, Sydney Boys High, James Ruse, MLC School and Newington College. Kelsey has the wonderful gift of not only moving an audience to tears but also making them laugh. Her prepared speech examined ‘the lottery of life’, with her Impromptu speech warning us all that robots could soon be conquering the world. Kelsey was awarded second place – a remarkable achievement.
