ANZAC Day Marches

Over three separate days the PLC Sydney Pipe Band and Wind Ensemble were  involved in performances for the Anniversary of ANZAC Day.

On Monday 25 April, our Pipe Band together with our Wind Ensemble girls for the first time, marched down Elizabeth Street in the city. The group presented themselves well, wearing a new glengarry hat, whilst helping our service men and women march through the streets of Sydney. If you attended the parade or watched the extensive coverage on ABC1 (54 minutes in and still available to watch on iview), you would have seen the girls admirably presented in both dress and sound. Thank you to Mr Wishart, Mr Harper and Mr Barnwell for organising this event.

On Tuesday 26 April the Pipe and Drums performed in the full school assembly and performed a beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’, which added much to this special service.

On Wednesday 27 April, the Pipes and Drums performed at the Newington College Anniversary Service. The group conducted  themselves well and enjoyed performing for the service, which included the Newington Cadet Corps. Thank you to Mr Adam Wishart and Mr Mark Lambert for their hard work with the  group and for achieving some wonderful presentations.

Into The Woods

Congratulations to the 20 members of the orchestra and to the girls who performed in both the solo roles  and the chorus for this year’s musical, Into the Woods. Your music-making was fabulous. A special thank you to the members of the Music staff, Mr Philip Harper, Mrs Casey Allen, Mr Andrew Basile and Mr Leigh Giles and also to all the very talented musicians who participated.

Australian Chamber Orchestra Workshop 2016

Tasman Jones (Year 11) and Elisheva Biernoff-Giles (Year 9) have been chosen to participate in a special String Workshop with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO). Tasman and Elisheva will attend the workshop on Wednesday 18 May, with members of the ACO. This is a wonderful opportunity for these dedicated musicians. Congratulations girls!

Attention Parents of Musicians

The 2016 Annual Music Festival will be held at PLC Sydney on the evening of Thursday 9 June. All girls in a Music ensemble must wear the PLC Sydney performance uniform (pink top and regulation black pants).

The Second-hand Uniform Store will be open on Saturday 7 May at the Open Day and Fair, where they will have a sale on performance uniforms. Please ensure you have your daughter’s uniform ready for the Music Festival in June.

Solo Piping Competition 2016

On Sunday 18 April, our annual PLC Sydney Solo Piping Competition was held for girls in the Pipe Band. Madeleine Maloof received first place, beating several outside pipers, and will have her name engraved on the Perpetual Trophy to be kept at school. Congratulations Madeleine.
