National Championships

Congratulations to our divers Elizabeth Macarounas (Year 11), Eloise Cain (Year 8), Milla Karam (Year 7), Imogen Howell (Year 7), Charlotte Somboli (Year 7), Zoe Leckie (Year 6) and Emily Webb (Year 5) who represented NSW at the Diving Age Nationals, which were held at Sydney Olympic Park from 13-17 April. 

All girls competed extremely well with several personal bests scores achieved. Emily, Eloise and Elizabeth were selected to compete in the State Challenge Cup, where NSW finished in second place. Eloise Cain took three golds in the 12-13 Years Platform, Synchro and 3 Metre Springboard; and Elizabeth Macarounas took two golds and one bronze in the Platform, Synchro and 3 Metre Springboard, respectively.

CIS Diving Carnival

Ten PLC Sydney Divers represented IGSSA at the CIS Diving Carnival on Thursday 28 April. We had some great results, with four of our divers progressing through to the NSW All Schools to be held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Friday 6 May. The girls did extremely well with Milla Karam (Year 7) finishing 1st in the 12 Years Springboard; Lauren Flint (Year 7) finishing 2nd in the 13 Years Springboard and 3rd in the 13 Years Platform; Eleanor Smith (Year 9) finishing 3rd in the 14 Years Springboard; and Elizabeth Macarounas (Year 12) finishing 1st in the 17 Years and Above Platform and 2nd in the 17 Years and Above Springboard. Well done girls.

A notable mention to Milla Karam who was the only athlete to compete in both Diving and Gymnastics, and will progress through to NSW All Schools for both sports.

Level 7-10 Artistic Gymnastics State Championships

Congratulations to Paige Banducci (Year 8) who competed in the NSW State Championships at the Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre from 16-17 April. Paige did extremely well achieving her personal best score.


Regional Level 6 and above Gymnastics Championships

PLC Sydney hosted the Level 6 and above Regional Championships the last week of Term 1. We put in some fantastic performances with the highlights being Mia Duarte (Year 7) taking two golds in the All Around and Beam and Maia Shannon (Year 7) taking gold in Floor and silver in Beam.


Senior Rhythmic State Championships

Five of our Rhythmic Gymnasts shon at the recent State Championship which were held at the Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre from 16-17 April. Our team included Madeline Chew (Year 6), Aerin Hayes (Year 6), Grace Sheng (Year 7), Zoe Lee (Year 7) and Amber Atcheson (Year 9).

A notable achievement came from Amber Atcheson who finished fourth in the All Around and was a member of the gold medal winning Junior International Group.

School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships
Following her NSW All Schools Triathlon Championship win in March, Hannah Moloney (Year 9) put together another strong individual performance to finish eighth at theSchool Sport Australia Triathlon Championships in the Junior Girls 12-14 Years age group. Held in the picturesque Hervey Bay, Queensland from 18-21 April, all junior female competitors completed a 400m swim, 12km cycle and 3km run. Hannah then joined forces with three other NSW teammates to take  bronze in the Teams event. Congratulations Hannah on a superb Triathlon season.

NSWCIS Swimming Championships

Twenty-one PLC Sydney swimmers represented IGSSA at the NSWCIS Swimming Championships last Wednesday evening and Thursday. Nineteen of our swimmers were successful in progressing through to the All Schools Championships to be held tomorrow at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. Good luck girls!

Our relay teams performed considerably well, contesting six of the seven relays which resulting in two golds and four silvers. All six relay teams will represent CIS at the All Schools. A special mention to our Senior relay team who took gold!

Congratulations to Coach Mr Pancha Thambo and all our swimmers on performing at an exceptional level at a demanding meet:

Junior School swimmers compete at the State Championships

issue0716-sport-swimming-juniorsCongratulations to our talented Junior School swimmers on their results at the recent NSWPSSA State Championships, held at Homebush. Mia Fildiddis competed in the 10 Years 50m Freestyle and Butterfly and 4 x 50m relay and Breeana Tsoltoudis competed in the 12 Years 50m Freestyle. Well done to our Junior Relay team, Mia, Caitlin Oeser, Saskia Paoli and Anastasia Watson, on being the third fastest school in NSW in the 10 Years and Under Relay event!
