Rostrum Voice of Youth
Recently, eight PLC Sydney students went to Santa Sabina to compete in the Rostrum Voice of Youth. All our girls spoke with confidence on a wide range of topics and each delivered an important message. Our PLC Sydney representatives were Stephanie Lee, Kelsey Lu, Sherie Pan, Lauren McGrath-Wild, Rhiannon Kumar, Sophie Ma, Lina Cho and Ariel Burgess. The field was very strong, with Sydney Boys High School, MLC School and SCEGGS being fierce contenders. In the seven rounds, we achieved three wins (Sophie Ma, Kelsey Lu and Lina Cho) and a runner-up (Ariel Burgess). Congratulations girls!
Kelsey Lu's speech on ‘The birth lottery’ was wise, moving and very humble; Sophie Ma put forward a solid case in support of ‘Releasing children from detention’; Lina Cho asked ‘Why Australia's recidivism rate was so high’, and suggested ‘Educational Solutions’; and finally, our youngest competitor, Ariel Burgess, highlighted some ‘Everyday heroes who make a real difference’.
Hye (Lina) Cho, Sophie Ma and Kelsey Lu progress to the next round, to be held on 9 May. Good luck girls!
