Pipe Band News

issue0516-jersey-pipesThank you to the members of the Pipe Band who have been busy recently with performances at school and in the local community.

On Saturday 12 March the largest Pipe Band at PLC Sydney ever performed for ex-students at the annual Jersey Day. The performance is always a highlight for the women and their families who attend the event. Thank you to Mr Wishart and Mr Lambert as well as all the parents for organising and supporting the girls.

The Pipes and Drums also performed at a special combined Churches of Burwood Easter event on Saturday 19 March. Thank you again to all the girls for entertaining the local community,

Year 7 Incursion

issue0516-music-year7On Friday 18 March, all Year 7 Music classes were treated to a special Taiko drumming workshop. The girls were fortunate to work with Leigh Giles, PLC Sydney Percussion teacher and member of a Taiko drumming group. The cohort was split into groups of 50 and given the opportunity to play either shakers, congo drums, djembe and small Taiko drums. The performance aspects of this workshop helped to reinforce the students’ previous study of movement, the Beat, Ostinato, Call and Response and Repetition.

PLC Sydney Band Excursion to The Scots College

issue0516-music-scotsOn the evening of Monday 21 March, all members of the PLC Sydney Wind Ensemble travelled to The Scots College in Bellevue Hill to work with the boys from the Scots Symphonic Wind Band as well as a marching band from the USA. Comprising 136 members, the visiting band was from Pennsbury High School which is located midway between New York and Philadelphia. The Pennsbury band was very polished in performance, and the whole event was a wonderful opportunity for our girls to watch and listen to the skill and technique of both bands as they performed.

Thank you to Mr Harper and Mr Barnwell for organising the event and to the parents who attended the concert and collected their daughters afterwards.
