Record number of students qualify for university science program

Twenty-seven students in Years 9 and 10 have been offered places in the 2016 University of Sydney ‘Gifted and Talented’ program. This is a significant increase on previous years where 17 students were selected in 2015, 16 in 2014, and 11 in 2013.

The three-day workshop runs during the Term 2 school holidays. The program provides students with additional challenges and stimulation in the areas of biology, chemistry and physics. It also enables students to engage with university teaching staff and current researchers, and to make friends with people who have a mutual interest in science.

To be eligible for the program students in Years 8 and 9 were required to complete an entrance exam in November of last year.

Congratulations to the following students who received offers:

Year 9: Angeni Bai, Tracey Chiu, Sophie Heasman, Tay Leung, Wendy Lin, Claire Shi
