Killer Robots – UNSW Computing Public Lecture Series

How do you stop Killer Robots?

issue0216-robots-iconThousands of experts in AI and Robotics recently signed an open letter to the UN calling for a ban on offensive autonomous weapons, or as the media like to call them, killer robots. Professor Toby Walsh (pictured left) will describe where this campaign came from, where it is today and what hope there is to get a ban in place.

He will answer many questions raised around such a ban. What are the main reasons to want a ban? What are the main objections to any ban?

Toby Walsh is a leading researcher in AI and has played a prominent role in the discussion around killer robots. He helped put the open letter together, and was subsequently invited to the UN to talk to senior diplomats about this issue. He will be returning to the UN in Geneva in April for further talks.

Associate Professor Richard Buckland will then ask Professor Walsh questions posted to Twitter by the audience on the evening. @UNSWCOMPUTING #killerrobots
