designartawards, an annual exhibition showcasing the outstanding and diverse achievements of our PLC Sydney Technological and Applied Studies and Visual Arts students from Years 7–11, was officially opened at 6.30 pm Tuesday 8 November 2016 at Adelaide Perry Gallery.
The evening was formally opened by guest speaker and PLC Sydney alumni (class of 2007), Mrs Tiia Verduci (nee Metzke), who spoke fondly of her time spent at The Croydon studying Visual Arts and Visual Design with her teachers Mr Fyfe and Ms Ellis. Tiia graduated from UTS Sydney in 2011 with a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communications and is now a successful digital designer at the prestigious international agency Saatchi & Saatchi. She spoke of how she developed a love for art and design at The Croydon and gave an insightful and entertaining account of how her career has developed since leaving the College. Vanessa Li, Art and Design Captain, thanked Mrs Verduci for her opening address and presented her with flowers.
During the official proceedings, a presentation of class awards for Outstanding Achievement and Creativity and Consistency were presented to Design and Technology, Textiles, Design and Food Technology students from Years 7–11 and Visual Arts, Visual Design and Photography, Video and Digital Imaging students from Years 8–11.
The Croydon is a special place where our students feel particularly happy to be studying. They are welcomed with a smile and encouraged to unleash their creativity to make quality works of art and design. Every year the flavour of the exhibition changes but the quality is always of excellent standard and just keeps getting better. The girls work with enthusiasm, interest and innovation, applying their individual experiences and imagination to a range of program opportunities at PLC Sydney.
