UNYA Speaking Competition State Finals
Congratulations to Isabella Cordaro (Year 7) who has been awarded 5th place in the junior division of the United Nations Voice of Youth (UNYA) speaking competition, held at Sydney University on Friday 4 November 2016. More importantly, she has gained herself a place on the NSW youth delegation and will travel to Hobart in April 2017 to connect with an exclusive group of like-minded secondary school students from across Australia. The youth delegates will discuss world issues, hear from leaders in business and work on nuanced and innovative solutions to social problems. This is the first time that PLC Sydney will be involved in the National Conference.
To proceed to this level, Isabella pitched a creative idea to improve access to medical care in remote Australia by providing mobile medical services. She backed her proposal with sound responses during the UN panelists’ question time.
Breteil David (Year 7) and Claire Shi (Year 9) also participated in the State finals and achieved top 15 status. Over 300 students participated in the initial rounds of the UNYA Voice of Youth competition. Congratulations to our Junior Speaking Stars!
