Australian Public Speaking Challenge

news-speech-canberra-2016Congratulations to our eight PLC Sydney students have featured strongly in all divisions at the Australian Individual Debating and Public Speaking Challenge (AIDPSC) held in Canberra on 26–28 September 2016. 60 students drawn from schools from QLD, NSW, ACT and VIC gathered at Canberra Girls’ Grammar School during the first week of the school holidays.

In a two day, extremely competitive schedule of Debating, Public Speaking, Interpretative Reading and Impromptu Speaking, PLC Sydney students dominated the field with outstanding results. Three students finished AIDPSC in the Top 10 and earned places in the Australian Speaking team heading to World Titles in 2017.

Congratulations to Eleanor Lawton-Wade (2nd in Australia), Jade Lin (5th in Australia) and Lina Cho (8th in Australia). The World event in 2017 will be hosted by Ravenswood School from 7–12 April.

For the first time in its history, PLC Sydney also sent a development squad to Speakfest. Competing against twenty seven other students, in the same styled events as AIDPSC, Lauren McGrath-Wild was declared the overall Speakfest Champion and was closely challenged by runner-up, Annabelle Moore.

  • AIDPSC Interpretative Readings Finals - 1st Eleanor Lawton-Wade (Lina Cho also a finalist)
  • AIDPSC Persuasive Speaking Finals - 1st Lina Cho
  • AIDPSC Impromptu Speaking Finals - 1st Lina Cho (Eleanor Lawton-Wade also a finalist)
  • Speakfest Debating - 1st Lauren McGrath-Wild

It was a privilege to watch how much these students learnt and achieved in this oratory hothouse.
