Year 10 Drama students were thrilled to welcome veteran Australian actor and director Jennifer Hagan to a special masterclass.

Ms Hagan was one of the first graduates of NIDA in the 1960s and has worked consistently across all Australian theatre main stages including the Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, The Griffin and Marian Street. She has also performed in film and television, most recently in George Miller’s Mad Max Fury Road.

Students peppered Ms Hagan with questions about her experiences as an acting student, how to best approach text and about the various highlights of her extraordinary career. Four students prepared monologues for Ms Hagan to direct. It was a very insightful experience to see our brave Drama girls be advised by a professional director.

Ms Hagan was very generous in her praise and shrewd in her advice. Each student learnt more about their approach to language, the importance of engaging with the intricacies of the text and the significance of breath when feeling the emotions of a character. The PLC Sydney Drama department are very grateful for this experience.
