The theme for Book Week this year was Australia: Story Country. The Junior School spent the week, starting Monday 22 August 2016, celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. A number of activities were held to highlight the importance of reading.
With the idea that everyone has a story, we tapped into some of our own PLC Sydney Australian stories, with a selection of Year 5 students telling their own amazing family histories.
On Tuesday, Evandale students attended sessions throughout the day held by storyteller Lee Castledine. The students delighted in the audience participation, paper folding, magic, props and puppets which she used to tell her stories.
Hamilton students were treated to a performance of ‘Fair Dinkum!’, a modern day fable that references classic Australian storytelling. This action packed, fun filled musical encourages children of all ages to consider how significant books can be.
The most anticipated event in the Junior Library calendar is always our Dress Up and Feast Day, which has now become a tradition at PLC Sydney. Hamilton students joined Evandale students for a combined lunchtime feast, organised by the P&F. This year, due to the rain, the festivities were held in Thompson Hall. Thanks to the dedicated parents for your planning and organisation.
Our final event for the week was the Book Fair, held in the Junior Library, which coincided with our annual Father’s Day breakfast. This proved to be popular with the Dads and their daughters purchasing books to the value of $7 985 - which goes towards our Junior School Library.
