Tournament of Minds
Congratulations to the Mini Da Vincis team who received Honours in the Science and Technology category of the Tournament of Minds (TOM) challenge.
On Sunday 28 August three PLC Sydney teams competed in the TOM challenge at Roseville College. Participants were required to compete in both the Spontaneous Challenge (received on the day) and the Long Term Challenge (prepared prior to the tournament).
Every Monday afternoon in terms two and three, the Year 4 classroom was buzzing with the sound of brainstorming, SCAMPER creative thinking strategies and satisfying solutions. The three teams worked hard to come up with humorous and imaginative responses to the Spontaneous Challenge. Their confidence grew each time they performed and they quickly learnt the value of building a strong team and the power of collaborating.
An important part of each training session was to spend time in teams discussing solutions to the Long Term Challenge which would be presented on tournament day. Scripts were written and edited, props were made and refined and all the hard work paid off as each team presented their solutions with confidence and enthusiasm.
TOM is a true test of teamwork, creativity and organisational skills.
Congratulations to the Mini Da Vincis team: Georgia Macdessi (Year 6), Annabelle Adams (Year 6), Michelle Ni (Year 6), Veronica Kwong (Year 6), Olivia Thompson (Year 5), Madeline Chang (Year 5) and Olivia Stavrakis (Year 5) who received Honours in the Science and Technology category.
