Year 9 Market Day

Market Day is the highlight of the Year 9 Commerce course that gives students a chance to run their own business for a day. This year we held Market Day over two days to accommodate the four classes studying the subject.
In the lead up to the day, students are introduced to concepts and skills associated with running a small business. They are then set to task, working in collaboration with peers to put their entrepreneurial skills and abilities to the test. The aim of the activity is to give students the opportunity to plan for and execute the running of a small business. Elements of the real commercial world are applied with stall locations allocated via an auction, fees charged for use of school equipment, and taxes paid on net profits.
Students always have a different view about the business world after the activity and appreciate the challenges and rewards associated with running a business. Needless to say, we certainly have a few budding entrepreneurs at PLC Sydney.
