Vale Michael McKenzie
Many of us in the College Community will remember with great fondness Mrs Lucy McKenzie, who taught in our Junior School until the close of 2012. Lucy is an exceptional teacher who returned to live with her husband, Michael, and her family in England after a highly successful teaching stint at PLC Sydney.
Tragically her husband, Michael, was killed in a motor sport accident at Donnington Park Racing Track over the holiday period. I quote from the Liverpool Echo newspaper:
A senior academic at the University of Liverpool died in a motorcycle accident at the weekend. Professor Michael McKenzie, 47, was taking part in a Thundersport GB series race at Donington Park in Leicestershire last Sunday when the accident happened.
Originally from Australia, Professor McKenzie had been working at The University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) since 2013 as a professor of finance. He was confirmed in the post of the school’s director just last month.
Following the accident Professor McKenzie was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham but died of his injuries later the same day. He leaves his wife, Lucy, and a baby daughter, Annabel.
The University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer said: “This is such devastating news. Michael was in the prime of his life and was a pleasure to know for all those who worked with him in the management school and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and his colleagues in the Management School.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Lucy and Annabel and the broader family. We will of course be sending our community's condolences at this time.
