Breteil speaks out in support of Assyrians
One of the things that the apostle Paul said that makes me ponder is ‘Rejoice with those that rejoice and weep with those that weep’. (Romans 15:12)
I feel very proud to be the principal of a College that has stood beside our neighbours in Vanuatu in their grief in the wake of Cyclone Pam.
It is also humbling to gather with the thousands of Australians who are standing alongside the Assyrian Christian community as they are suffering the brunt of Isis: in the loss of lives, the reduction of their population from 2 million to 500 000 in the Tigris valley, and in the destruction of ancient monuments dating back beyond Nebuchadnezzar's time.
Our own Year 6 student Breteil David gave an address before the Prime Minister, the Shadow Treasurer, about 15 politicians from different sides of politics, the worldwide media and many thousands of concerned citizens at Fairfield Showground on Sunday 24 March.
She outlined the plight of her people and called for assistance from the Australian Government. Breteil spoke with force and dignity.
