Adelaide Perry Gallery was abuzz with excitement on Thursday 20 November for the opening of KidsArt 2015. The exhibition featured art works by PLC Sydney students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.
Year 6 students presented guests with refreshments on arrival and a quintet of musicians from Year 4, led by Mr Michael O’Dea, provided musical entertainment as the event got underway.
To open the exhibition PLC Sydney’s Junior School community welcomed back much-loved illustrator Mr Tom Jellett who, earlier in the term, had presented drawing workshops to Years 2 and 5. Mr Jellett spoke about how important art has been to him throughout his life, making use of a whiteboard and marker to bring to life in images his recollections of some of his most inspirational art teachers over the years. He also commended the students on the works displayed.
Head of Junior School, Mrs Deryn Smyth, welcomed the many parents and students to the Gallery and congratulated the girls on their efforts in Visual Arts during the year. Mrs Smyth thanked the Junior School teaching staff for their support of the students in these creative endeavours, as well the Croydon Staff for their assistance with the display. On behalf of the Junior School Staff Mrs Smyth also expressed appreciation for the contributions of Mrs Alison Lloyd, Mrs Annie Welch and Mrs Anna Johnston-Buckle have made to the Junior School Visual Arts program in the position of Junior Specialist Visual Arts Teacher. Junior School Captain, Rose Bouwman, and Vice-Captain, Chanel Chamoun, closed the proceedings with a presentation of thanks on behalf of the College to Mr Jellett for his participation at the event.
