IGSSA Gymnastics

Our sincerest apologies to Georgia Page (Year 11) who was mistakenly omitted from the IGSSA Gymnastics report in Issue 16 of Connections. Georgia completed two amazing vaults in Level 6 and finished first. We are very proud of her achievements. Georgia is, as always, an integral member of the PLC Sydney Artistic Gymnastics team.

Touch Football

issue1815-football-pls2-iconissue1815-football-pls5-iconThree PLC Sydney IGSSA Touch Football teams made it through to the Grand Final on Saturday 21 November.

PLS2 scored a resounding 7-1 victory against Danebank on PLC Sydney’s Drummond Field. After finishing in fourth place at the end of the final round, the girls took down the undefeated Brigidine School in the semi-final with an enthralling match that went into extra time. Having lost to both Brigidine and Danebank during the season, the Senior Seconds would have to be considered the most improved Touch Football team in 2015.

PLS5 also played at home, beating a strong Roseville College 6-5 in a nail-biting finish. The team managed to come back from two tries down at one stage during the match. The Year 7 girls went through the season undefeated and beat St Catherine’s School 6-2 in the semi-final.

PLS3 played against Pymble Ladies’ College at their ground. It was a tightly fought contest and the girls from Years 8 and 9 went down fighting 3-2.

Congratulations to all teams and their coaches for all their effort and commitment to make it  such a successful season.

Over the past two weeks the PLC Sydney Rowing Team has competed in two regattas:

issue1815-rowingRNSW Independent School Championships on Sunday 22 November

This was the first event at Sydney’s Olympic regatta venue for Year 7 and some of our Year 8 rowers.  They all performed well achieving their best rows of the term. Our mixed Para crew were very competitive in their division of the Year 8 Quads. Year 9 First Quad dominated their heat, gaining a position in the very competitive A Final of the Year 9 Quads where they placed a very close and exciting 5th place. Our Year 10 Quads fought hard against each other in the same final with the Firsts just taking first place from the Seconds. Our Senior crews raced in a scratch crew in the Senior Four and finished the day with a very solid performance by our Second Senior Quad in the Senior Quad event.

Sydney Girls High Regatta on Saturday 28 November

This was a very successful regatta for our team. Our crews battled some very rough and choppy conditions to achieve three 1st places, four 2nd places and three 3rd places. A great effort from all girls.

IGSSA Water Polo

PLC Sydney competed in five divisions of IGSSA Water Polo this term, with four of the teams contesting semi-finals, and all of them making it through to the grand final.

The Junior Firsts (competing in the prestigious J01 division) came to the grand final undefeated and showed no complacency, with a resounding 13-4 win over St Catherine’s School. Congratulations to Coach Lizi Simms, Year 9 students Carla Traplin, Lilli Harris, Holly Garner and Donna Tsang and Year 8 students Jade Clemm, Emily Gralton, Georgia Smith and Mariah Moshovis – an amazing team effort.

Inspired by the Firsts’ win, the Junior Seconds played next, beating Abbotsleigh in a tightly fought match.

In the dying minutes of the game and behind in the score, the girls equalised then scored the winning goals with just 15 seconds left on the clock – a determined effort considering the strong Abbotsleigh side won the round game by two goals.

Congratulations to coach Harry Sanderson and the team made up of Year 9 students, Annabelle Mentzines, Jessica Page, Rhiannon Kumar, Anna Mc Rae, Eleanor Lawton-Wade and Laura Hooper and Year 8 students, Charlotte Williams, Claudia Taylor-Blair and Jasmin Wiesner.

The Senior Firsts lost their grand final narrowly to Santa Sabina, which was a tremendous effort considering the team finished fourth after the round games.

The Year 7 team who competed in the difficult Y701 division lost their grand final to an impressive team from St Catherine’s. With only one club player, the inexperienced but determined PLC Sydney team will have a bright future.

Congratulations to all players and coaches on a wonderful season.
