Students attend event to support White Ribbon Day

DSC_7199DSC_6955Last week Dr Paul Burgis and the PLC Sydney Pipes and Drums attended a special event at Burwood Park in support of White Ribbon Day.

The theme of the launch was ‘Don’t Be a Bystander’, which encouraged the community not to tolerate violent and abusive behaviour towards women.

Guests placed a ribbon pledging that if they ever knew about an act of domestic violence they would speak up against it.

Professor Dame Marie Bashir spoke to the students, stressing how violence against women contradicts values that are integral to Australian society, such as respect, fairness and compassion.

The event also included speeches by students from Burwood Girls, Burwood Public and Enfield Public and a performance by the PLC Sydney Pipes and Drums.
