Aerobics National Championships
Twelve PLC Sydney students recently competed at the ‘Aeroschool’ National Championships for Sports Aerobics: Kristen Dive (Year 11), Grace Kleppich (Year 10), Lucy McSwiggan (Year 9), Courtney Holley (Year 9), Jenny Wu (Year 9), Jennifer Turner (Year 9), Tia Gallanos (Year 9), Lilly Tyson (Year 9), Erin Foudy (Year 9), Mia Mariner (Year 9), Mariana Ioannou (Year 9) and Eleanor Smith (Year 8).
The competition consists of teams from both independent and state schools from all around Australia. This was the first national competition for most of the girls and they performed extremely well in both the Intermediate and Beginners levels.
Congratulations to the following teams:
- Level 4 group – Lucy McSwiggan, Courtney Holley, Jenny Wu, Jennifer Turner and Eleanor Smith who received the Gold Medal.
- Level 4 Pair – Lucy McSwiggan and Courtney Holley who placing second receiving an extremely high score.
After Aeroschool many of the girls joined the State team and represented NSW in the Sports Aerobics National Championships. We are so proud of every girl’s performance with the majority of the girls achieving their personal best. These included:
- Courtney Holley and Lucy McSwiggan – 4th place in level 4 pair
- Kristen Dive – 4th place in level 4 senior individual
- Lucy McSwiggan and Courtney Holley who tied for 12th place in level 4 intermediate individual.
All girls really enjoyed themselves and gained much needed experience. They are already preparing for next year’s competition and a new category called ‘Aero Dance’.
NSW All Schools Athletics Championships
Year 8 student Taylor Porter (pictured) was recently crowned NSW Champion of the 14 years 2000 metre steeplechase at the All Schools Athletics Championships, which took place from 8-11 October. Year 10 student Ishani Roy received a silver medal in the 12-15 years Para Athlete Long Jump. Taylor Porter later completed the full set of medals for PLC Sydney with a bronze in the 15 years 3000 metres.
Taylor has been selected in the NSW team to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships in Melbourne from 4-6 December.
Other students who took part at the NSW All Schools Championships were: Anna Dowling (Year 7), Heidi Watkins (Year 7), Haley Mills (Year 7), Sarah Ong (Year 8), Lauren Webber (Year 9), Siale Sabatino (Year 9), Jade Lin (Year 10) and Clementine Landels (Year 11).

Congratulations to our PLC Sydney Level 3-5 Artistic Gymnastics teams. All girls competed extremely well with every team appearing on the dais in their division:
Level 3 Junior – 1st place
Level 3 Senior – 2nd place
Level 4 Junior – 1st place
Level 4 Senior – 2nd place
Level 5 – 1st place.
Staff Sporting Success
Two PLC Sydney Sports Coordinators have recently achieved success in their respective sporting fields.
Mr Cameron Morrissey placed first in the Adelaide 2015 ITU Duathlon World Championships that was held last weekend. Mr Morrissey was part of the Australian Age Group team that made up a field of 28 in the competitive 30-34 age category. Duathlon consists of running and cycling.
Ms Lee Capes was named Coach of the Year for Hockey at the Briars Sporting Club. This is the first time that a female coach has taken out this prestigious award. Ms Capes is also a former Australian field hockey player who won gold at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
