For the fourth successive year, the PLC Sydney Senior Firsts Hockey team has won the S01 IGSSA Hockey Premiership.
On Saturday 12 September in very hot conditions, the Firsts were to play a double header. Their focus going into the morning was to firstly secure a position in the Final, by beating SCEGGS at 8.00 am. It was a clinical display, with PLC Sydney leading 2-0 at the half-time break, going on to win comfortably with a 5-0 score card. This allowed the team only 15 minutes to celebrate their win with family and friends who were in full force at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre.
The Final saw PLC Sydney meeting perennial opponents, Pymble Ladies' College at 10.00 am. It was just 25 seconds into the game that saw the first conversion, with Year 12 students Louise Hannan-Cullen using aerial skills to finish off a penetrating run from the half line from Kaitlin Nobbs.
The score remain unchanged at the break, with goalkeeper Jessica Stewart (Year 12) having made some superb saves to maintain the lead. Two goals in quick succession mid-second term finished off any dreams Pymble had of making a comeback. Georgina Ryan (Year 10) showed amazing grit to rebound off her own shot to double our lead, with the final goal going to Louise Hannan-Cullen who cover drove a rebound from their keeper into the back of the net.
With six Year 12 students playing their final game for their beloved school, it was great a celebration for Kaitlin Nobbs (Captain), Dyone Bettega, Jessica Stewart, Louise Hannan-Cullen, Bay-Lea Wilson and Emma Whitney. Katherine Sloane was the only Year 11 player, and the team is left in good hands with six Year 10 students getting the first of hopefully several hockey pockets: Maddison Smith, Litiana Field, Madison Lane, Kendall Lane, Charlotte Wilson and Georgina Ryan.
Third Row: Katherine Sloane, Georgina Ryan, Charlotte Wilson, Maddison Smith, Litiana Field, Kendall Lane, Madi Lane, Lee Capes (Coach).
Second Row: Emma Whitney, Louise Hannan-Cullen, Bay-Lea Wilson, Dyone Bettega, Kaitlin Nobbs.
First Row: Jessica Stewart.
