IGSSA Athletics Championships

On Friday 16 August the PLC Sydney Athletics team competed at the 92nd IGSSA Athletics Carnival. The 65-member team, led by captain and Year 12 student Dyone Bettega, had prepared for the event by competing in four Friday night twilight carnivals. These meets provided the girls with the opportunity to develop their race fitness and competition strategy.

At the close of the carnival PLC Sydney finished in 4th place out of 25 schools. We also came 3rd in the Junior Section, 8th in Intermediate and 7th in Senior.

The final point score for the top six places was:

    1st: Pymble Ladies’ College      504.5
    2nd: Abbotsleigh   459
    3rd: Roseville College    271
    4th: PLC Sydney    223
    5th: Monte Sant' Angelo    219
    6th: St Catherine's Waverley   218.5

Some of the stand-out achievements on the day included:

    • Dyone Bettega (Year 12) who won two events – Senior Discus and the 18 years Shot Put
    • Hannah Moloney (Year 8) who won the 13 years 800m
    • Haley Mills (Year 7) who won the 12 years 800m.

Around 15 girls are expected to be named in the IGSSA team that will compete at the CIS Carnival on Wednesday 16 September.
