Mikaela invited to perform in the USA

issue1215-music-icon2In January 2015 Mikaela Sukkar in Year 9 had the privilege of attending the Credo International Intensive Chamber Music course, held at Scots College, and run under the direction of Professor Peter Slowik from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Credo Chamber Music is an international music program dedicated to combining high level musical training with Christian mentorship and the opportunity for outreach and service to others – Develop the Gift, Acknowledge the Source, Respond with Service.

The final concert was held at the Verbruggen Hall at NSW Conservatorium of Music, with an outstanding level of performance from all 50 young musicians involved.

Following this intensive camp Professor Slowik personally invited Mikaela to visit the Conservatory in Ohio USA, to perform a series of concerts with the Ohio Conservatory and then travel to Chicago to perform.

In Chicago Mikaela attended the Chicago Credo Chamber music course where she played the Mozart oboe quartet. Several of the musicians she was playing with were from prestigious universities such as The Juilliard School in New York.

The group travelled around Chicago and played in churches, nursing homes, and the university where they were rehearsing. In the evening Mikaela would rehearse again with other musicians as she worked on the Brandenburg Concerto. The group finally performed at several concerts the Chicago Symphony Centre and The Severance Hall in Cleveland Ohio where they played to sold-out audiences.

Mikaela had a wonderful time and learnt much from this experience. Congratulations Mikaela on this well-deserved opportunity!
