Results of Senior Speaking Challenge

Congratulations to the 21 speakers who participated in the annual PLC Sydney Speaking Challenge on Tuesday 28 July. The event, which has been running for over 40 years, was established in the late 1960s under the guidance of Ms Freda Whitllam and enables the top Public Speaking students to demonstrate their skills in rhetoric and oratory. This year the standard was most impressive. The panel of three adjudicators was thrilled with the confidence and competence of the participants who entertained, inspired and informed a large audience of staff, parents and students.

The results of the Challenge are:

Junior Public Speaking
Winner: Eleanor Lawton-Wade (Year 9)
Runner-up: Sophie Douglas (Year 9)
Highly Commended: Sarah Sweeting (Year 8), Bridget Fredericks (Year 7)

Senior Public Speaking
Winner: Nicole Sung (Year 11)
Runner-up: Sophie Morrison (Year 10)
Highly Commended: Annelise McCarthy (Year 11), Jade Lin (Year 10)

Special thanks to Annelise McCarthy for her eloquence and efficiency as compere for the event.  Annelise is the incoming Public Speaking Captain for 2016. 

 

Results of Senior Speaking Festival

Term 2 concluded with Years 10 and 11 participating in a wide range of oral performances on Thursday 18 June 2015 in College Hall. Poetry and interpretative readings were bought to life with vocal sensitivity.  Impromptu speaking skills were honed as students tackled topics with only five minutes of preparation.
