Isabella chosen for Chamber Orchestra Academy
Congratulations to Year 10 student Isabella Zhu who took part in a five-day Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) Intensive Performance Academy during the recent school holidays.
Isabella was one of 23 students from across Australia accepted into this very prestigious academy. There were only 12 string players accepted and Isabella plays the violin. To apply for a position in the course she had to submit her audition through YouTube and present two very contrasting pieces.
Isabella was able to work intensively with several members of the ACO and found the experience to be very rewarding and enjoyable. She learnt much about bowing techniques, how to listen to others in an ensemble setting and Chamber Music in general.
2015 Eisteddfod Results
Congratulations to the girls in the PLC Piano Trio, Alison Chen (Piano), Isabella Zhu (Violin) and Nicole Sung (Cello), and their teacher Mr Andrew Basile., who performed in the Sydney Eisteddfod School Chamber Music section. Although the girls did not gain a place, they played extremely well and received some very fine comments from the adjudicator.
The Adjudicator wrote:
An atmospheric performance of this emotionally charged movement. Virtuosic piano playing throughout, a lovely cello cadenza. A few minor intonation problems between the violin and cello, but nothing major. I very much enjoyed the return of the vivace. Good preparation, bravo! (89%) Zoltan Szabo.
Piano Trio Thank you
Thank you to the same girls in the PLC Piano Trio, Alison Chen (Piano), Isabella Zhu (Violin) and Nicole Sung (Cello), who also performed at the 150th Anniversary Service of the Presbyterian Church in NSW during the school holidays.
